DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING LEVEL 3

This qualification at Level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework has been designed to provide candidates with the understanding and skills needed in broad ranges of complex and non-routine accounting activities. Designed to be flexible and modern, the qualification aims to develop candidates' understanding and skills in both manual and computerised accounting contexts.
The qualification is made up of four units which can be entered individually or as part of an overall Certificate qualification. If candidates wish to take all four units of the qualification, then a Diploma award is available. The structure of the Certificate qualification requires candidates to take any two units from the four units available. There are two units in manual accounting and two units in computerised accounting to choose from. Candidates can either specialise in manual units or computerised units or pick and mix from both to make up their Certificate.

STRUCTURE OF THE QUALIFICATION

This qualification is made up of four units:

Unit 1 Preparing trading, profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and accounting ratios
Unit 2 Calculating depreciation and preparing suspense accounts
Unit 3 Setting up accounting software to manage accounting information
Unit 4 Processing the year end using accounting software

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The OCR Level 3 Diploma in Accounting (03719) is aimed at those who are already competent in routine accounting skills but wish to develop further knowledge and demonstrate skill in a wider range of complex accounting activities.
There are no awarding body specified entry requirements for candidates wishing to take this qualification. However, the qualification builds on candidates’ knowledge of routine accounting activities and candidates will therefore need to have previously developed knowledge and skills at Level 2 either through a relevant and appropriate programme of study or through work experience. Candidates who have achieved the OCR Level 2 CertificateI in Accounting or the Level 2NVQ in Accounting prior to embarking on this qualification will be able to build on this previous study.
